Who You’re Hiring
Master Electrician, Owner
Matt is a licensed Tennessee Master Electrician who has been on the tools since the late 1990s. He started Volta Electric in 2009, after years with a regional contractor where he saw too many homeowners getting oversold on work they didn't need.
Journeyman Electrician
Jake is a licensed journeyman with a specialty in residential service upgrades and EV charger installs. He's the team lead on most of our panel work.
Project Manager
Alicia runs scheduling, permit coordination, and customer communication. If you've ever gotten a same-day estimate or a permit-approval text, that was Alicia.
What Customers Say
“Matt and Jake upgraded our 100-amp panel to 200-amp service in one day. They pulled the permit, scheduled the inspection, and even coordinated with NES for the utility disconnect - we didn't have to make a single phone call. The work passed inspection first try. Highly recommend for anyone in East Nashville dealing with an undersized panel.”
“We had an EV charger installed last month. Matt came out first to check our panel capacity before we bought anything - turned out we needed a small subpanel, which he caught ahead of time so we didn't end up with a charger that would have tripped breakers constantly. Install was clean, everything was permitted.”
“We had flickering lights that three different electricians couldn't figure out. Volta diagnosed it in 45 minutes - a loose connection at the utility splice point that was arcing inside the wall. They fixed it that day. Alicia followed up the next morning to make sure everything was still working. That kind of follow-through is rare.”

FAQ
Yes. Matt holds a Tennessee Master Electrician license, and every job is performed by a licensed journeyman or master electrician working under it - never a helper on their own. We also carry general liability and workers' compensation coverage. We'll send you the licence number and current certificates of insurance with your written estimate, before you commit to anything.
Most residential panel upgrades from 100A to 200A take 4–6 hours on the day of installation. The permit process typically adds 1–2 weeks for scheduling, though we handle all permit applications and inspection scheduling for you. You'll be without power for roughly 2–3 hours during the service disconnect.
We install any hardwired Level 2 charger - Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, Grizzl-E, Enel X JuiceBox, and others. We recommend you buy the charger that matches your vehicle's onboard charger capacity. We can advise on circuit sizing for any unit before you purchase.
A standard residential upgrade from 100A to 200A service typically runs $1,800–$3,200 in the Nashville area, depending on panel location, conduit run, and whether a utility reconnect fee applies. We provide a firm written estimate before any work begins - no surprises on the final invoice.
